Side-lying, bolstered and gentle, with oils chosen to be safe in pregnancy and marma points that are avoided rather than pressed. Our postnatal care follows the Nepali and Ayurvedic tradition of daily oil massage in the weeks after birth, for mother and baby alike.

Step by step

What happens during Prenatal & Postnatal Massage

No surprises. This is the exact sequence, in order.

  1. Step 01

    Check-in

    Week of pregnancy, any complications, and clearance from your doctor if there have been any.

  2. Step 02

    Positioning

    Side-lying with bolsters at hip, knee and bump. No prone position at any stage.

  3. Step 03

    Gentle sequence

    Back, hips, legs and feet with light-to-medium pressure and lymphatic direction.

  4. Step 04

    Rest

    Slow return to sitting, warm tea and time before you stand up.

Oils we use

Plain cold-pressed sesame or coconut. No essential oils, no medicated formulations, unless prescribed.

Aftercare

Rest for the afternoon. If anything feels unusual afterwards, call your obstetrician first and us second.

From which week can I book a pregnancy massage?

From the start of the second trimester (week 13) for uncomplicated pregnancies. In the first trimester or a high-risk pregnancy we ask for written clearance from your doctor.

Do you offer postnatal Ayurvedic care?

Yes — the traditional Sutika care series of daily warm oil massage and abdominal binding, usually from week two and often as a course of seven or fourteen days.
